Looks like L.D. 1177 is dead

Well, the latest news is that the bill that we had hoped would solve many of the problems surrounding Maine's Abandoned and Discontinued roads is probably dead.  It actually passed the Senate 21-14, but then was rejected by the House on Friday, 50-92.  With little time left this session, it is doubtful that it could be rescued at this stage.  We have mixed feelings about the news.  Originally we had high hopes for L.D. 1177, especially after the Stakeholder Group came out with excellent recommendations.  Unfortunately, the intent of the bill got buried under a bunch of side issues, and in the end L.D. 1177 did not accomplish what was set out to be done, so we were unable to give it our support.  Very disappointing after two years of hard work.  For more information, see the Bangor Daily News article with its flurry of comments on it online, or go to facebook and search for Maine ROADWays.
