Conference Presentations:
“Legal Aspects of Running Private Road Associations”: by Attorney Mary Denison of Lake & Denison, Winthrop, Maine. She will present on topics related to the Private Ways Statutes, 23 M. R. S. §§3101-3104 including recent Statutory revisions, formation, and current operation of non-profit and statutory road associations.
“Land Surveyors Perspective for Road Associations": by Judd Vear, Professional Land Surveyor with twenty years of surveying experience. His presentation will provide a practical look at how surveyors, establish the location of private property, private roads and easements; common sources of confusion in survey plans and descriptions; and ways roadway associations can better understand and work with survey records.
"Maintenance Issues of Concern for Private Road Associations With Focus on Environmental Impacts": by David P. Rocque and Emlyn Emerock. David was a State Soil Scientist for the State of Maine from 1988 - 2021, overseeing the State's 16 Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Emlyn is the Community Engagement & Land Use Coordinator at Lakes Environmental Association (LEA), a non-profit in Bridgton that works to protect and advocate for the waters and watersheds in the Greater Sebago Lake Region. They will speak to maintenance with an environmental focus.
Registration and Attendance:
Safety and comfort for attendees at Maple Hill Farm Conference Center is paramount. The Gathering Place is Maple Hill's newest and largest space complete with state of the art audio and video facilities, lots of natural light (or room-darkening curtains) and a great view, a soaring ceiling, unique lighting, and a large fireplace.
MARA has decided to limit attendance to 36 in-person attendees plus the 4 Speakers and the A-V person. This number may be changed based on registration numbers.
AV Portland will provide a professional virtual experience that will allow for ample presenter/audience interaction by both in-person and virtual attendees.

MARA members only: each $30.00
Guests (non-members): $40.00
Late registration for Members is $40 and for Guests is $50.00 after August 31, 2026.
No cancellations or refunds after August 31, 2026 except we reserve the right to cancel the conference due to unknown circumstances up until Wednesday, September 30, 2026. If it becomes necessary to cancel the event, all registration fees will be promptly returned.
