Number of votes

If a road association member has a lot with their residence on it, and has also purchased three adjacent lots, would it be appropriate for the owner of the four lots to be allowed to have one or four votes at meetings?

If the lots are adjacent and only one has a house on it, our association charges just one assessment and gives just one vote.  We used to have a developer who owned multiple lots.  If we had allowed him one vote per lot, he could have had an unfair influence.  Also, it was hard enough to get him to pay just one assessment.  If we had charged him for each lot, I'm sure he would have put up a fight.

I'd like to hear what other associations have done.

As long as assessments and votes are consistent, you could go either way. In our case, if lots are adjacent or would be adjacent except for the road, we treat them as one lot for assessments and votes, with one exception. If two or more of the adjacent lots have homes/camps, there is an assessment and vote for each developed lot.
