Looking for opportunity for educational forum with legal input regarding Statutory Road Associations. Last spring, many road association officers attended a full day class in Bangor regarding how to develop bylaws, budgets, etc. in preparation for forming Statutory Associations at their next summer meetings. At that meeting, I asked about creating a network of associations, officers listed and perhaps having a meeting with legal representation to answer questions about many of the questions that have been recently posted on this forum. I understand such a meeting has been held in the past sponsored by the cooperative extension.
I feel that many officers remain in the dark as to the changing laws since last year and also do not have funds in our associations to contact lawyers for legal advice.
Could other Statutory Associations formed please weigh in on this and could MARA perhaps consider holding such a forum?
    Thank you.

Betsy, I think this is an excellent idea. I would welcome a short session with appropriate resources to have questions answered and update us on the changes. I would definitely participate. Augusta would be the most central
    location.

Yes, Augusta would be more central for me.
Thank you for trying to organize.

Thank you for the interest and again stress the need and importance for education. New things come up, most recently attempting to register liens with form supplied by MARA.  This was refused by registry and another member of our association will weigh in on this site with information and correction needed.
    Thank you.

I am looking at a location in Belgrade, between Augusta and Waterville, at the Maine Lakes Resource Center, on the water with facilities for teleconferencing so maybe people who could not make it could Skype in. It could be a two-session conference, one session on road association formation and operation, and the other on road maintenance. There would have to be a charge for facilities. You could pre-order a sandwich lunch for the event with your registration for an extra charge (the nearby Day's Store does a great job setting out cold cuts, etc) or bring your own. There would have to be a charge for the facility. I have not yet secured final word on any of this, speakers or location; just posting for feedback. The date would depend on availability, but I am thinking this Fall.

I think having such a meeting would be a great idea; however I think it should be in the Spring before most of us have  our annual meeting. The Maine Lakes Resource Center would be very convenient to us. Let me know if I can help organize it.

Betsy, have you had any luck scheduling a session or two for reviewing the new rules etc. I still believe this would be a very worthwhile thing to do. Cost should not be an issue.

Agree that spring would seem a better idea prior to our meetings and budget planning...
