Are road assessments tax deductible?

    Aren't road association assessments a form of property tax?

    We treat collection of our road association maintenance fees like collection of property taxes by our town because of the similarity between the two. That is where the similarity ends. Property taxes are assessed by a municipality; maintenance fees are assessed by a private road association. This just received from my accountant:

    "If the property is rental property then you can deduct as rental property fees.  If personal property, no, they are not deductible."

    Interesting question!  I hadn't thought of trying to deduct them from income taxes.  From the previous answer, it looks like they are not deductable - but maybe you could get another opinion from another tax accountant.
